When the most respected businessman comes to town - drop everything

I didn't quite realise the enormous impact that the North Queensland Entrepreneurs Conference is having on Queensland. It is by far one of the best one-day conferences to hit Queensland this year, and is action packed with real stories from entrepreneurs who have "made it".

Each entrepreneur is relatable. They started with an idea and turned it into something. Jack Cowin, is the main keynote speaker and he is known around the globe as being one of the smartest businessmen on the planet. The fact that he is taking up a couple of days of his time to support North Queensland and help entrepreneurs through his telling his story, is a real testiment to how charitable and kind he is as a man.

A journalist said to me yesterday, "wow... he owns..." I never look him up however from time to time things cross my desk with him buying or selling something, and I am reminded just how remarkable he is as a business person.

Listening to him speak is a big deal for North Queensland. No wonder people are travelling from all over the world to hear him speak.

For those who don't know what he does, here is a few things I found online:

  • Founder and Managing Director of Competitive Foods
  • Estimated worth according to BRW $1.8 billion
  • Invested in Network Ten, selling out with a profit of around $100 million
  • Owns 40% of BridgeClimb
  • Owns Hungry Jacks (approximately 250 stores), and an additional 100 as franchisees
  • He owns a meat processing business and exports around the world. He is rumoured to be the biggest buyer of beef in Australia
  • He bought the rights to open 10 KFC's in Western Australia in 1969 by asking 30 of his friends of $10,000 each
  • He still owns a number of KFC stores
  • He is an investor in Lone Star Restaurants in Canada

He is also very charitable, but doesn't talk about it, which impresses me even more.

Come meet him at North Queensland Entrepreneurs Conference on November 8, 2016. Buy tickets on www.nqecon.com.au
